Our Core Values
A focus on quality, a decentralised organisation and approach are the principles behind our commercial activities.
Investment in the quality of our publications and products and the potential of our workforce is of paramount importance in everything we do. To get as close as possible to our writers, readers, partners and customers, companies within the group are given room to work with a high degree of autonomy. Flat hierarchies are preferred, and large centralised structures are avoided.
Our overseas business is managed from New York (Macmillan US) and London (Macmillan) as well as from locations all over the world – e.g. Oxford, Melbourne, Bangalore, Mexico City and Johannesburg.
In this way we are able to develop and promote an individual culture in each of our subsidiaries. Coupled with this is a clear focus on the strengths of each associated company, often based on long tradition. In an age where the media world is increasingly globalised, we are focused on leveraging the opportunities provided by the internet and on forming long-term cooperations with reliable partners. We believe this strategy guarantees the growth and success of the publishing group and ensures the continuing quality of our publications.
In a business world dominated by major conglomerates, the achievement of market leadership simply through scale is not our primary focus. Instead, our ambition is to occupy leading positions in precisely defined markets, where the expertise and passion of those who work in these businesses play a key role in delivering the best possible service and products to each target market.
