Macmillan India, founded in 1893, has its headquarters in Bangalore. Macmillan Publishing Solutions, a publishing house servicing business, and one of the leading publishing houses in India operated up to 2008 under the umbrella of Macmillan India. Due to the importance and size these two companies achieved a decision to separate the companies, organisationally and lawfully, was made.

The publishing business now functions under the umbrella of Macmillan Publishers India Ltd (MPIL). MPIL publishes educational books for all levels as well as texts from well-known writers, for example the political writings from Rabindranath Tagore, a Nobel Prize laureate.

Macmillan India Limited is solely comprised of Macmillan Publishing Solutions (MPS), a publishing house servicing company. In the last 30 years MPS has become a leading supplier of type-setting and design services for publishing houses focusing on the areas of science, technology and medicine. More than 2,500 experts offer their know-how, particularly for magazine and book publishing companies, for complete solutions up to the point of pre-press. Amongst others, data preparation, digitalisation and data conversion belong to the services offered by Macmillan Publishing Solutions. As of late, the company also offers support for subscriber management systems as well as for graphic design for book and magazine titles and advertisements. Alongside the experts in India, the company also has access to production facilities in the United States.
