Roger W. Straus founded the Farrar, Straus and Giroux publishing house in 1946. Famous imprints publish renowned authors such as Hermann Hesse, T.S. Eliot, Pablo Neruda, Nadine Gordimer and Jonathan Franzen.


Susan Sontag (1933-2004) received the German Book Trade Peace Prize in 2003.
